Client: The Joint Venture of Bournville Village Trust and the Homes and Communities Agency
Lightmoor is planned as the new, 21st century ‘Bournville’: an updated model village, for residents of all life stages, with quality of community life as a priority and environmental sustainability as a key influence. Lightmoor Village is one of Tibbalds’ longest running projects: we started with a feasibility masterplan, secured outline planning consent and continue to be involved as design champions and planning consultants.
The village comprises 800 homes, open space and a mixed-use village centre. Tibbalds’ comprehensive Design Guide defines an overall coordinating framework along with detailed design guidance for buildings, streets and spaces. This Design Guide forms the basis of parcel developer selection and implementation, ensuring that the design of each phase of development contributes to the masterplan vision.
Around 350 homes are occupied, the primary school opened in September 2011, and the mixed-use village centre is complete. Tibbalds has submitted a further outline application for a 200 home extension to the village.
