2 Millharbour EIA proposals gain resolution to grant
Proposals submitted by Tibbalds on behalf of Galliard Homes Limited for a residential-led, mixed use development designed by Rolfe Judd Architects have secured a resolution to grant at the Strategic Development Committee in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
2 Millharbour is a cleared site in the Isle of Dogs that has remained vacant for almost 20 years and the proposals will deliver a high quality new design set across seven buildings ranging between 9 and 42 storeys with over 900 new homes, a leisure facility and other mixed uses. Almost 300 of the new homes will be affordable and, in addition to play and communal spaces, the scheme will also introduce a significant level of public realm and connectivity to the wider area.
Three years ago owners of the site at 2 Millharbour and the two adjoining sites jointly appointed a team comprising Studio Egret West, Karakusevic Carson Architects and Tibbalds to develop a joint masterplan for the three sites. This process was pursued in consultation with the Greater London Authority and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and was subject to extensive public consultation and technical assessment. The joint process established a series of principles for the sites in terms of layout, massing, land use, access, movement and design and provided the framework to enable the individual developers to bring forward detailed planning applications for each site.
Tibbalds role was to lead the planning process and achieve key strategic aims for the project based on the client’s brief, coordinate the planning submission and deliver a planning permission.
