Carpenters Estate Masterplan and Tower Court win Golden Pineapple Awards!
Last week was an exciting one for the Tibbalds team as two of our projects were awarded Golden Pineapples by The Developer.
THE CARPENTERS ESTATE MASTERPLAN was awarded the Golden Pineapple for Future Place, and it is really great to win this for the collaborative co-design of this important resident focussed masterplan and “new piece of London” for the London Borough of Newham. Starting in 2020 Tibbalds key role was as planning consultant and lead consultant, steering the project through some interesting stages during the pandemic and supporting the whole design team to bring together the comprehensive application for over 2000 homes, workspace, mixed uses and community use to make sure that the future plans reflected current residents needs as well as being deliverable and well thought through – a significant feat. Well done to the whole team we worked closely through this process with including Populo Living, CampbellReith, Metropolitan Workshop, Proctor and Matthews Architects, make:good, LDA Design, Mott Macdonald, XCo2 and a whole host of others along the way.
The judges said that the Carpenters Estate Masterplan "carefully considers the existing population, with a long-term view for ways to establish a thriving community for the future. There is simultaneously an ambitious plan, coupled with an ethos to avoid displacing people."

TOWER COURT, HACKNEY was given its Golden Pineapple for Community Engagement: Homes which is a fantastic award to win for a really great project that is now fully built and occupied. Tibbalds were planning and heritage consultant helping make sure that the project moved smoothly through the planning process and rightly recognised a range of views and concerns in the way it was resolved and secured. Tower Court is a model for both collaboration and Council-led high density family living, shaped around the changing and diverse needs of contemporary London. Meaningful community engagement, including with the Haredi community, together with excellence in design has created a mixed and integrated place delivering 132 high-quality, modern mixed tenure homes.
Well done to everyone involved including our client the London Borough of Hackney and the project team, which included Adam Khan Architects (lead architect and design guardian), Daisy Froud (community engagement), Child Graddon Lewis (delivery architect), muf architecture / art (architecture, landscape and public realm), Tom Stebbing (John Stebbing Architecture, Orthodox Jewish adviser), and Potter Raper Limited (Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveyor).

The Pineapple awards judges citation says of Tower Court “This project’s meaningful engagement with the Haredi community and returning residents led to design changes large and small. It was obvious how the design was positively impacted by the quality of these conversations, leading to the generosity of the communal spaces and specific design changes in the home, including two balconies for residents. Wider stakeholder engagement with groups such as Hackney Mosaic and the later inclusion of a memorial for a prominent community member point to how a golden thread of meaningful connection flows through to the delivery of this place.”
There is a short film about the project here:
It was also announced last week that Tower Court has also won a special prize in the 2025 Civic Trust Awards for community impact and engagement. Again a fantastic recognition for the whole team for some great work!
