Hilary Satchwell appointed as Mayor of London’s Design Advocate
Tibbalds is pleased to announce that its Director Hilary Satchwell has been appointed as one of the Mayor of London’s Design Advocates, part of the Good Growth by Design programme launched this week.
The Mayor’s Design Advocates will support the Mayor’s ambition to uphold the quality, inclusiveness and sustainability of development across London. They will assist the Mayor and his agencies to set an example; ensuring the highest standards across the GLA Group’s own activities and London’s built environment more generally. In particular they will support the development and delivery of the Good Growth by Design agenda and Mayoral pledges and policies by providing related expertise and guidance.
Hilary is one of a pool of individuals, which also includes Sir David Adjaye, Wayne Hemingway and Sadie Morgan, that represent the highest quality of talent and expertise across a broad range of built environment disciplines. They have been chosen to provide support to the Mayor and his staff through advocacy, critique and research.
She said: “This is a really exciting time for London and a really important moment to reflect on how inclusive and well-designed cities are made and how they can bring about a sense of belonging for all of us if designed, delivered and managed in the right way.
“I fully support the focus not only on the quality of our buildings, but also on the spaces and places between them, and on green spaces and parks that make our city an exciting and good place to live.
“We need to make sure that London as it grows is not a ‘tale of two cities’ with some people excluded from the range of opportunities available. A quality-led growth agenda that centres on people as well as places is essential to help deliver new homes and new workspaces at the same time as thinking about wellbeing, quality of life and environmental considerations.”
