In Focus: Cody Dock
Tibbalds
Since 2011, Gasworks Dock Partnership has been working on the regeneration of Cody Dock in Newham. Located just off the River Lea, halfway between the River Thames and the Olympic Park, this long-forgotten dock has been transformed from an industrial dumping ground to a lively, sustainable community that has become a treasured, waterfront resource for locals and visitors alike.

From early 2017, Tibbalds has been working alongside GDP and PUP Architects to prepare an application for the Cody Dock masterplan – a strategy that will secure the sustainable long-term future of this important community asset. The masterplan sought to normalise those activities already undertaken on-site and create a framework for future employment-led development at the Dock. This included around 2,000sqm of studio space, a brand new dry dock facility, and the reintroduction of working boats into the dock through new work/live moorings.
A hybrid application for the masterplan was submitted in October 2017. In April 2018, planning permission was granted, representing a positive end to six years of work from GDP in rehabilitating Cody Dock.
Below is a selection of photos from our office trip to Cody Dock back in Summer 2017.
