Join the Tibbalds team! - position available: Associate Town Planner
Are you passionate about making good places? Do you want to develop your career at a specialist consultancy with a reputation for positive planning and promoting good design?
Tibbalds Planning and Urban Design is looking for an Associate town planner to join our friendly, multidisciplinary team based at London Bridge.
The role is focused primarily on development planning for a wide range of public and private sector clients, mainly in London and the south east, on an eclectic mix of projects. What sets us apart from other practices is our strong development planning function within a design-focused practice. We’re motivated by the delivery of high quality design and place-making, so it’s important that you are interested in promoting good design through the planning process.
We have a broad portfolio of planning work, which includes policy and guidance, spatial strategies and strategic urban design. Our planners also work alongside urban designers and architects to provide advice on in-house masterplanning projects. An interest and aptitude in these areas of work is therefore desirable and would enable you to contribute beyond the core development planning role.
Our development planning projects are diverse, including residential infill schemes, complex mixed-use urban developments, innovative commercial spaces, estate regeneration programmes, large urban extensions and new communities. We have an excellent client base and an expanding list of rewarding projects.
Recent recognition includes the Bourne Estate which was overall winner in the Housing Design Awards 2018 and winner at the RIBA 2018 awards; Colville Estate which was winner of the Borough Led Project Awards at the London Planning Awards 2019; White Collar Factory which was highly commended for the Mayor's Award for Sustainable and Environmental Planning at the London Planning Awards 2019; Marklake Court which was winner of the housing category at the 2019 New London Awards; Belle Vue retirement community, Hampstead which was shortlisted for the RIBA London and Regional Awards 2020.
You will be enthusiastic and creative, with excellent communication and writing skills. You will show the ability to think strategically and look for positive solutions to planning issues. We will expect you to have a comprehensive grasp of the development management process, and an analytical approach to current and emerging planning policy. You will have a strong track record of achieving planning consents for a variety of clients and be able to handle complex projects with limited supervision.
You will have well-developed project management skills and be comfortable leading multi-disciplinary consultant teams. Experience of preparing bids and winning new work is highly desirable.
We expect that you will have at least 6 years of directly relevant experience. You will have RTPI Membership.
We offer a range of CPD and employee benefits. We are also an employee-owned business. We will offer a competitive salary to match your skills and experience.
Please send a cover letter and your CV with a relevant project example, listing your contributions to the piece of work to darren.smith@tibbalds.co.uk before 1pm on 18 June 2021.
