Summary of 2022 at Tibbalds
Thank you to everyone we have worked with throughout this year.
This year has certainly been very interesting and we are thankful for working and collaborating with many like-minded and aspirational clients, engaged communities and expert co-consultants. Together, we have participated in a wide range of interesting and exciting projects, events and awards and continue to deliver new sustainable housing, invigorated town centres and expert design codes and guidance.
We have helped Central Bedfordshire engage with residents of Biggleswade and gain valuable input to shape their potential ‘Sustainable Transport Corridor’
This year’s highlights include working on masterplans and planning applications for more than 6,000 homes across a range of challenging and interesting projects including:
- Northstowe, Cambridgeshire
- Westbury and Knight’s Walk Estates, Lambeth
- The Britannia Project, Hackney
- The Carpenters Estate, Stratford
- Paradise Design Code to guide the sustainable densification of an area within Hemel Hempstead’s town centre
- Appointment to scope new South Yorkshire housing design guide
- Scheme at Bessborough Road Completed and occupied
- Development brief and design code for land at Greyfriars in Bedford
Many projects we have led and provided planning and urban design expertise for have been shortlisted or won awards, including:

We have continued to extend and manage our networks with a range of good practice organisations speaking regularly with clients and taking up speaking opportunities including:
- National Planning Summit 2022
- Westminster Social Policy Forum
- ACES National Conference 2022
- Planning for Housing 2022
We have also provided opportunities of social value for graduates and young people to gain practical and useful experience of what it means to work within the Planning, Urban Design and Architecture environment, paying particular attention to providing opportunities for people from ethnic minority backgrounds, supporting:
- Two six-week summer internships
- The opportunity for a young person from Lambeth to join us as part of our regeneration work at the South Lambeth Estates, and facilitating work experience for young people in Newham as part of the regeneration of the Carpenters Estate, LB Newham.
- Work placements for three other young people with an interest in planning, urban design and architecture
Our study trip took us to Sheffield, visiting two areas of the city subject to celebrated regeneration projects: Kelham Island and the Park Hill Estate.
Gingerbread City 2022: Tibbalds have been involved in the masterplanning of the city for the past six years, and it brings design challenges that are very different to our other urban design projects! This year our plot is located within the 'Tropical' zone and is all about productivity in the face of changing and increasingly challenging conditions.
Lastly we would like to wish you all a happy, healthy and successful new year!
