Planning Permission Granted for Homeless Accommodation and Assessment Centre
Planning permission was granted at the London Borough of Newham’s planning committee in December 2019 for the change of use of a disused library to a temporary hostel and assessment centre for people identified as homeless.
The application was prepared and submitted by Tibbalds on behalf of the London Borough of Newham’s Adults and Health Directorate. This approval has enabled the borough to provide the urgently needed accommodation and assessment centre in time for winter and will run until April 2020.
The key purpose of the centre, providing 25 bedspaces, will be to provide a ‘first-step’ intervention to enable appropriate assessment of users. This will allow identified vulnerable people the ability to access support appropriate to their needs, including educational, training and employment opportunities, which has until now proved difficult for them.
Newham’s reference number for this planning application is: 19/03060/LA3
