Tibbalds appointed for Council-led housing programme in York
Tibbalds Planning and Urban Design has been appointed to help develop proposals for 600 new homes in York, as part of a team led by Mikhail Riches.
The project forms part of the City of York Council’s ambitious Housing Delivery Programme, which aims to provide high-quality new homes catering to diverse needs across the city. The programme will be built out over the next five years on Council-owned sites.
The programme will respond to the city’s commitment to healthy placemaking to benefit current and future residents, including providing public open space that is accessible and well-integrated into the existing urban environment.
The new developments will be sustainable in design and will include a range of tenure types including market sale, social rent, and low-cost home ownership, with the potential for future self-build opportunities.
Matt Shillito, Director at Tibbalds said: “This is an important opportunity to bring much-needed affordable housing to York and help the Council move forward on their Housing Delivery Programme.
“We look forward to helping create thoughtful, sustainable designs, as well as enhancing the existing urban infrastructure, benefitting both current and future residents.”
Tibbalds has taken up the role as planning consultant and, in addition to Mikhail Riches, is working alongside Imagine Places, Civic Engineers, Urbed, and Leda.
