Delivering award winning, high quality, multi-phased estate regeneration in Hackney

Tibbalds were appointed by London Borough of Hackney to work as part of a wider team on the regeneration of the Kings Crescent. The multi-phased project saw a hybrid application covering the whole estate submitted initially, with the first phases submitted in detail. More recently a new detailed application has been submitted for the final phases in order to revisit some of the masterplan principles.

A number of previous attempts at regeneration of the Kings Crescent Estate had failed. As part of a new team Tibbalds secured planning consent for high quality regeneration of the estate with the first phases now delivered and in occupation.

The Kings Crescent had been subject to a number of unsuccessful attempts at regeneration over several years. Demolition of some blocks had already taken place and the community were frustrated with the ongoing delay to new homes being provided and much needed improvement works. Tibbalds were appointed as part of new design team to revisit previous attempts at regeneration and secure planning consent for the regeneration of the whole estate that was deliverable, innovative and of exceptional design quality.

A revised masterplan was developed and outline planning consent obtained for the regeneration of the whole estate, including significant improvement works to existing homes. The first phases were submitted in detail and are now built and occupied. Before commencing construction on the final phases the masterplan principles within the outline planning consent were revisited, to address consultation comments, resulting in a separate detailed planning application being submitted.
